It used to be, you could develop a website, post it to the web and then register your website with all the main search engines such as Yahoo, Google, ect... And depending upon what key-word the prospect typed in, your website was found (or not). It was clean and relatively simple to do.
That was in the “good old days” when there were only a few million registered websites on the web. Now, there are hundreds of millions out there, and search engines gave up long ago trying to fairly index each website to place a value on each search term.
Your prospects are not going to go through hundreds if not thousands of websites to evaluate which one is the absolute best of the best. It would take them days if not months of research.
Thus, they usually scroll down and check out (if we’re lucky) about the top 10 or 20 websites and go from there. It’s the same methodology the yellow pages use by having advertisers post large advertisements. The bigger the advertisement, usually the more business you get as a result.
People are now using the “Pay-for-click” search engines to register their website (Google, Yahoo). There’s no such thing as a “Free Lunch” out there anymore. If you want to play... you have to pay. Pay-for-click is very expensive, semi effective at best, but it was the only game in town. Bottom line, if you wanted to get found you needed it use it. The problem is, now, with so much competition for a quality keyword, it’s costing way too much to bring a qualified prospect to your website.
In the early 1800’s during the gold rush, the only people making real money were the vendors who sold the picks and shovels. It’s the same way with Google and Yahoo. They get richer while you fight among one another to get a little higher search engine ranking than your competitor.
Now there’s a next step in the evolution of the web. SEO Optimization! Bottom line is we’re getting back to the old way of web implementation. Spiders and Bots are indexing websites based upon certain key elements which are essential they be there to rank high in search engines. We know those key elements and can help you become SEO friendly.
Bottom line is you can have the absolute best website on the Internet, but if it can’t get found, it’s worth nothing.
