Even though there are over 30,000 lists on the market today, there are basically only three types of lists;Consumer Lists where you reach prospects at their home address, Business Lists where you reach prospects at their place of business and Specialty Lists which include every other type of list, subscribers to various publications, persons who completed surveys, attended an event, belong to a club or association, Veteran, etc.
Consumer and Business lists are usually compiled and then overlayed with other smaller lists to enhance selectability. Specialty lists are called “Response lists” because a person usually needs to have responded to something in order to get on these lists.
Which list do you need to be able to successfully market to your prime prospects?
That’s a big question which sadly goes unanswered most of the time. Finding that “perfect” list is hard and is usually the first thing blamed when a marketing effort goes flat. Most people don’t know right questions to ask a list owner or manager. Questions like: “How do people get on your list?”, “When was it last updated?”, “What percent of your file is deliverable?” and a whole slew of others!
