Some Interesting E-mail Variations.

Ever want to send an e-mail to someone without them knowing where it came from? Check out http://www.anonymizer.com/main.html. Here you can even visit other web sites anonymously.

More and more, free e-mail providers are showing up to join the long-time leader, http://www.juno.com, in giving away e-mail services. Even Yahoo and Bigfoot, both search engines, have joined the free e-mail to the masses. Most of the search engine crowd is using this no-charge service to expand their business. Of course, you will have to put up with having a commercial with the free service. Juno hits you whenever you use their e-mail program. Others attach an advertisement to the e-mail you send so the receiver gets it.

So, free is a relative term, especially if you or the e-mail message receiver succumb to the advertising that typically accompanies the free e-mail account.

For a modest monthly fee, even the least expensive POP account (dial-up) comes with an e-mail address - and often, even a small space for a web page or two. So it is not really necessary to subscribe to a free e-mail address. My Internet Access Provider (ISP) gives me an e-mail address; my domain-named web sites all give me one or more e-mail addresses (sales@4expertise.com; info@referrals.com; register@2shoptheworld.com, etc.), and it becomes a task to access each domain e-mail account to check it for mail. So, I just have it all forwarded to one favorite e-mail address and can then set up my e-mail program to get all my mail from a single source. My free Juno account has probably been closed by the company by now due to inactivity. I avoid using it because I'd rather not view the commercials and it is very limited in its features.

Imagine all your internal and remote offices/users being able to send and receive instantly compatible E-mail. Imagine doing so using your organization's existing software systems, securely and inexpensively. Well, it hasn't happened yet. For the most part, a standard e-mail message, using text or ASCII characters can be handled by most systems. But, attachments are still "iffy."
